Michigan State linebacker Ed Davis is out for the season after injuring his knee in practice Wednesday.
The school says Davis will need surgery.
Davis, a fifth-year senior, has 11 sacks in 40 career games for the Spartans. He was an honourable mention All-Big Ten selection last season.
Coach Mark Dantonio says Davis' presence in the lineup will be missed, but he will still have an important role on the team and may be able to qualify for a sixth year of eligibility.
