New South Wales Waratahs forwards Will Skelton and Silatolu Latu have been cited for an illegal tackle in the win over the Crusaders in Super Rugby on Saturday.

Skelton and Latu were both involved in the tip tackle on Crusaders lock Sam Whitelock in the first half in Sydney.

Southern hemisphere rugby body SANZAR said they would face disciplinary hearings as the offence met the threshold for a red card for both. Hooker Latu was shown a yellow card by the referee for lifting Whitelock and dropping him on his head. Second-rower Skelton was not punished.

The defending champion Waratahs won 32-22 to move top of the Australian conference. Skelton and Latu face bans and could miss crucial games in the final part of the season.
