Jordan Potts scored 25 points — hitting 4 of 6 3-pointers — to lead Bethune-Cookman to an 86-79 win over Tennessee-Martin on Monday night.
Bethune-Cookman sped away to a 17-3 early lead, making eight of its first 10 shots. The Wildcats (2-0) led by 17 points, 24-7, after a Potts 3-pointer.
UT Martin charged back to lead 34-33 at the half raining down 3-pointers by Jacolby Mobley, Kedar Edwards (with two), Alex Anderson, and Terrence Durham. The Skyhawks (0-2) were 13 of 30 from 3-point range. Twymond Howard scored 18 points, Mobley 17 with five treys, Edwards 14 with three 3-pointers and Richard Lee 11 points also with three 3-pointers.
Bethune-Cookman also made 13 long-range shots — out of 27 field goals — with Jouse Salaam hitting three late-game daggers from 3-point range. He put BC ahead 63-59 with one, 72-68 with another and 80-74 with 1:14 remaining.
