Colorado Rockies pitcher Yohan Flande has left his start against the San Diego Padres in the third inning after being struck in the left leg by a line drive off the bat of Jedd Gyorko.
Flande was falling forward in his follow-through Saturday night when the ball hit him squarely on the leg near his knee. The ball rolled into foul territory between third and home, and Gyorko wound up with a double.
Clearly favouring his left leg, Flande was briefly examined on the field by a trainer before being escorted to the clubhouse for treatment.
The team later said X-rays were negative, and Flande has a bruised patellar tendon.
