Canada coach Kieran Crowley made six changes to his starting lineup for the Pool D match against Romania, giving veteran lock Jamie Cudmore a chance to equal the national record for most Rugby World Cup appearances.
Cudmore, playing in his fourth World Cup, will equal Rod Snow's mark of 14 when he starts in Tuesday's match at Leicester. He will also captain the Canadian lineup for the second time this tournament.
James Pritchard, Canada's leading international scorer, could also get a start in a fourth World Cup after being included on the bench in the 23-man squad. Canada is coming off a 41-18 loss to group-leading France on Thursday.
Romania coach Lynn Howells made seven changes to his side that lost 44-10 to Ireland.
It is the eighth time in the past nine international matches that Romania have made this many changes, and Howells has chosen his team with Canada's threat in mind.
"We have no new injuries. It's the ability to see the opposition and really pick a team that plays against the opposition," Howells said. "This game gives us an opportunity to get a result and that gives a different outlook altogether."
Romania competed well in spells against France in a 38-11 loss in its opening match, and Howells is optimistic that his side can beat Canada and then Italy next weekend to finish in third place and qualify for the 2019 World Cup.
"It gives us four years' preparation which would be huge for Romanian rugby," he said. "The Canada game is a semifinal for us. It's that important. The players have put in a lot of hard work and this is what they deserve."
Prop Mihaita Lazar and lock Valentin Poparlan will both be making their 50th test appearances.
Romania is without lock Ovidiu Tonita, who has scored 15 tries in 72 tests and played in 14 World Cup matches. He is out of the tournament with a broken thumb.
Both teams are winless so far in the tournament, although Canada picked up a bonus point in the 23-18 loss to Italy.
