Teddy Ruben and Brandon Burks combined for five touchdowns as Troy defeated Charleston Southern 44-16 Saturday night, giving coach Neal Brown his first win.

Ruben, who caught six passes for 89 yards, put the Trojans (1-1) ahead 14-0 with receptions of 47 and 6 yards. He later returned a punt 64 yards for another score. It was Troy's first punt return for a TD since 2010.

Burks carried 14 times for 50 yards and two short TD runs. Andre Flakes raced down the left sideline 47 yards for his first career touchdown on the Trojans' final score.

Charleston Southern's (1-1) Darius Hammond rushed for 161 yards and also caught two passes, one for a touchdown.

Each team gained 374 yards. The Trojans' Brandon Silvers completed 19 of 28 passes for 249 yards and the two touchdowns to Ruben.
