Sarah Sjostrom of Sweden has lowered her own world record in the 100-meter butterfly to win gold at the world swimming championships.

She led at the turn and won by a body length, touching in 55.64 seconds Monday night.

Sjostrom first broke the world record in the semifinals Sunday and she took it lower by a hundredth of a second in the final.

Jeanette Ottesen of Denmark finished second in 57.05 and Lu Ying of China was third at 57.48.
