Derrick Griffin scored 16 points and grabbed 17 rebounds, and Texas Sothern pulled away in the second half to beat Mississippi Valley State 75-60 on Saturday night for its sixth straight victory.

Griffin shot 6 of 9 from the floor. David Blanks had 15 points and Chris Thomas added 14 with seven assists for Texas Southern (7-11, 6-0 Southwestern Athletic Conference). Jose Rodriguez chipped in 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting for the Tigers.

Marcus Romain and Kylan Phillips scored nine points apiece to lead Mississippi Valley State (2-18, 2-4).

It was tied 23-all midway through the first half, and the Tigers led 33-31 at halftime.

Texas Southern opened the second half on a 23-10 run and led by double digits the rest of the way. Blanks scored eight points and Rodriguez added six during the stretch.
