Tom Graveney, a former England cricket captain who played for his country 79 times, has died. He was 88.

The England Cricket Board and Gloucestershire cricket club, which Graveney captained in 1959 and 1960, announced the death on Tuesday.

Graveney made his England debut in 1951 against South Africa, with his final appearance coming in 1969 against the West Indies.

He scored 4,882 runs for England at an average of 44.38 and made 11 centuries.

As well as playing for Gloucestershire at the English county level, Graveney also played for Worcestershire and Australian team Queensland.

In his domestic career, Graveney scored 47,793 runs and 122 centuries. He worked as a cricket commentator after retiring in 1972.
