A pair of bronze medals Saturday kept Canada's streak of at least one medal per day alive in Rio.

Brianne Theisen-Eaton of Humboldt., Sask., claimed the first track and field medal in Rio with bronze in heptathlon.

The track cycling pursuit team repeated its bronze-medal performance from London four years ago.

Calgary's Allison Beveridge, Vancouver's Jasmin Glaesser, Montreal's Kirsti Lay and Georgia Simmerling of West Vancouver, B.C., beat New Zealand for a podium spot.

Two gold, two silver and eight bronze medals — all won by women — ranked Canada 11th in the overall total medal count Saturday. The goal is top 12.

The Canadian team totalled 18 medals — including one gold — four years ago in London and finished 13th.

The good:

— Ranked sixth after the first of heptathlon's two days, Theisen-Eaton rallies with a strong performance in javelin and the 800 metres.

— The track cycling team rebounds from a first-round loss to eventual champion Britain to beat the Kiwis soundly for a medal.

— Andre De Grasse of Markham, Ont., cruises to a first-place finish in his heat to advance to the semifinals of the men's 100 metres.

— Divers Jennifer Abel and Pamela Ware of Laval, Que., advance to the women's springboard final.

— Sarah Pavan of Kitchener, Ont., and Heather Bansley of Waterdown, Ont., move onto women's beach volleyball quarter-finals, but eliminate fellow-Canadians Jamie Broder and Kristina Valjas in the round of 16.

The bad:

— The women's eight finishes fifth. The rowing team goes home with just one medal which was silver in the women's lightweight double sculls.

— Jason Burnett of Nobleton, Ont., a silver medallist in 2008, doesn't qualify for trampoline final.

— Graham DeLaet of Weyburn, Sask., falls out of contention in men's golf with four bogeys on the back nine in the third round.

— Chaim Shalk of Red Deer, Alta., and Calgary's Ben Saxton lose out in beach volleyball's round of 16 to a Dutch team.

Ones to watch Sunday: De Grasse in the 100 metres; Canada versus Spain in women's basketball; Ariane Fortin of St-Nicholas, Que., makes her Olympic boxing debut in the middleweight division; synchronized swimmers Jacqueline Simoneau of Saint-Laurent, Que., and Karine Thomas of Gatineau, Que., perform preliminary duet free routines; Pavan and Bansley in beach volleyball quarter-finals; Abel and Ware in three-metre springboard final.

Canada's grade: B.
