Vanderbilt teammates Dansby Swanson and Carson Fulmer are among five finalists for the Dick Howser Trophy as college baseball's national player of the year.
The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association also announced Thursday that Arkansas outfielder Andrew Benintendi, UCLA reliever David Berg and Miami third baseman David Thompson are finalists. The award will be presented June 11 at the College World Series.
Swanson, Vanderbilt's shortstop, is batting .348 with 22 doubles and 14 home runs, and Fulmer leads the Southeastern Conference with 12 wins, a 1.92 ERA and 147 strikeouts.
Benintendi, the SEC player of the year, is batting .390 with 18 homers. Berg is the Pac-12 pitcher of the year with a 7-1 record, 0.68 ERA and 13 saves. Thompson leads the nation with 19 homers and 85 RBIs.
