Minnesota Vikings coach Mike Zimmer's father is ailing.
Zimmer told reporters Monday that he will miss practice Tuesday because his father is "not doing well." Offensive co-ordinator Norv Turner will supervise the team in his absence. The Vikings have a scheduled day off from practice Wednesday.
Zimmer's father, Bill, was his high school coach in Lockport Township, Illinois, outside of Chicago. Zimmer has often credited his dad for his 21-year career as a coach in the NFL.
Bill Zimmer, now in his mid-80s, was inducted into the halls of fame for the Illinois high school coaches associations in both football and wrestling.
