Kevin Doherty hit an RBI double and Matt Thaiss had a three-run single in Virginia's five-run 11th inning, leading the Cavaliers past Southern California 14-10 early Monday to advance to the Super Regionals.

Virginia (37-22) will face Maryland or UCLA next weekend in a best-of-three series.

The Cavaliers erased a 9-6 deficit in the eighth when Pavin Smith hit a bases-loaded single that scooted under the glove of left fielder Bobby Stahel to clear the bases. Thaiss' hit off Brent Wheatley (4-4) in the 11th came on a nearly identical play, this time to right field.

Southern Cal (39-21) scored an unearned run in the 11th on a passed ball, but was eliminated. The Trojans issued 14 walks and hit three batters, and nine of the 17 scored for Virginia.

David Rosenberger (3-0) pitched four perfect relief for the win.

Jeremy Martinez had four RBIs for the Trojans.
