William Nylander had the tying goal in the third period, then scored in a shootout to help lift the Toronto Marlies to a 5-4 victory over the Utica Comets on Friday in American Hockey League action.

T.J. Brennan, Casey Bailey and Kasperi Kapanen supplied the rest of the offence for the Marlies (9-3-0), who have won four straight. Mark Arcobello also scored in the shootout.

Travis Ehrhardt had a short-handed goal in the third period that gave Utica (4-4-2) a short-lived 4-3 lead. Brendan Gaunce, Mike Zalewski and Wacey Hamilton rounded out the Comets' attack.

Garret Sparks made 32 saves for the win. Jacob Markstrom stopped 30 shots in a losing effort.

Toronto was 1 for 5 on the power play while Utica failed to score on three chances with the man advantage.
