Courtney Williams scored 18 points and No. 13 Texas A&M used a smothering defence in the second half to coast to 88-47 win over Southern on Sunday.

Jordan Jones added 15 points, Anriel Howard 13, Courtney Walker 11 and Chelsea Jennings 10 for the Aggies (2-0).

Texas A&M was up 49-34 at halftime and then held the Jaguars (1-1) to 13 points in the second half on 12 per cent shooting (4 for 34). At one stretch in the second half, Southern missed 12 straight shots and 19 of 20.

The Aggies went 25 of 36 from the foul line while Southern was 11 of 18 and A&M scored 31 points off of 25 turnovers.

Though the Aggies only had a 47-40 rebounding advantage, they still dominated the inside with 34 points in the paint to just 6 for Southern.

Cortnei Purnell had 16 points for Southern.
