Guatemala prosecutors say 19 national police officers have been detained and accused of extrajudicial killings and other crimes.
The national prosecutor's office says the officers are accused of killing three men who resisted an eviction of indigenous farmers in the state of Alta Verapaz, about 120 miles (200 kilometres) from the capital. The officers also face charges of obstruction of justice and abuse of authority stemming from the August confrontation.
Several villagers reported forced disappearances the day of incident, in which 22 villagers were arrested. Four were imprisoned for attacks on authorities and inciting violence.
