Suspected members of El Salvador's Mara street gangs have killed four banana plantation workers in a rural area.
Prosecutors and police said the four young workers were shot to death Tuesday by gang members in the township of San Dionisio, southeast of San Salvador.
Two women were killed in a separate incident in hamlets in the same area. A local criminal gang is suspected in their deaths.
The street gangs were once mainly an urban phenomenon, but have spread their reach into rural areas.
