Vice-President Joe Biden will visit Ukraine early next month for meetings with the country's president, prime minister and members of parliament.
The White House says Biden also plans meetings with civic leaders when he visits the week of Dec. 7.
The trip will be Biden's fifth to Ukraine as vice-president.
Biden has met and spoken by telephone regularly with President Petro Poroshenko and Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenuk following Russia's annexation of the Crimean Peninsula in 2014 and the unrest between the Ukrainian government and Russian-backed separatists that followed.
Progress toward implementing a peace deal will be on the table next week when President Barack Obama meets with the leaders of Britain, Germany and Italy during a global economic summit in Turkey.
