Gov. Calvo and the Department of Public Health's Office of Vital Statistics argue that a decision on the merits of a federal court case should be postponed until a final ruling on same-sex marriage is issued by the U.S. Supreme Court.
Attorneys for the governor and the Office of Vital Statistics registrar on Monday said the defendants don't dispute a 9th Circuit Court decision that struck down same-sex marriage bans in several states, but they argue that everyone benefits from the court withholding judgment on the case.
The Pacific Daily News reports (http://bit.ly/1F05wEW ) the case was brought by Kathleen Aguero and Loretta Pangelinan. The women have challenged Guam's restriction on same-sex marriage and have asked the island's federal chief judge to prevent the law from being enforced.
