Authorities in Belize say there was a modest turnout for Wednesday's voting in the small Central American nation.
No incidents were reported in the voting for the House of Representatives and officials gave no indication when results would be known.
Prime Minister Dean Barrow is hoping to win another term after calling the snap elections, which drew about 68 per cent of the 196,587 registered voters. His United Democratic Party faced the opposition People's United Party, which ran on a platform of free education and national health insurance.
Barrow has been in office since 2008.
Belize is a Caribbean coast country of about 350,000 people best known for its beaches and jungles.
