Police have released new information about a car seen leaving the Tallahassee neighbourhood where a Florida State University law professor was found fatally shot in his garage.

Toronto-born Daniel Markel was found with a gunshot to the head on July 18, 2014. Police have said Markel was the shooter's intended target.

Tallahassee Police on Friday released a photograph of a 2006-2009 Toyota Prius seen driving from the area. Authorities say the car appears metallic to light green and its windows are tinted.

Police say a tow bolt cover on the front bumper, the passenger's side mirror is black and there's a toll transponder stuck to the front windshield.
