The commander of government forces in Srebrenica during Bosnia's 1992-95 war has arrived in Sarajevo after Swiss authorities approved his extradition to his home country instead of Serbia.

Naser Oric, who arrived in the Bosnian capital on Friday, was arrested June 10 by Swiss authorities acting on a Serbian warrant.

Belgrade alleges he and other members of the Bosnian Army in Srebrenica attacked surrounding Serb villages between 1992 and 1995, killing civilians.

A U.N. court acquitted Oric of war crimes charges but Serbia insists he was guilty. Criminal proceedings against him are also ongoing in Bosnia on similar charges.

Serb forces besieged Srebrenica throughout Bosnia's 1992-1995 war. They overran the U.N.-protected enclave and massacred around 8,000 Bosnian Muslims in 1995 — the worst carnage in Europe since World War II.
