A would-be smuggler's plans to fly from Germany to London with cocaine in his underwear came unstuck because he wrapped the drugs in aluminum foil — setting off an airport metal detector.

German federal police said the 42-year-old man was pulled aside during a security check at Bremen airport on Friday. They said he had packed 41 grams (1.45 ounces) of the drug in plastic and aluminum wrap, and hid the 6-centimetre (2 1/2-inch) bag into his underwear.

The man told officers that the cocaine was meant for his personal use. He missed his plane, but remains free pending an investigation of suspected narcotics offences.
