Jamaican authorities are investigating an apparent murder-suicide involving two policemen.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force says they are probing the circumstances that led to the Sunday fatal shootings of two police constables in St. Ann parish. They did not release further specifics.

But opposition security spokesman Derrick Smith described the incident as a murder-suicide.

Smith says the case raises questions about whether Jamaica's police force "has sufficient safeguards in place to identify members under particular stress or whose conduct has become high risk."

The Jamaica Observer newspaper reports that the men were at a bar apparently celebrating the birthday of one of the two constables. It says that one of the officers apparently took his own life after fatally shooting his colleague.
