Massachusetts Institute of Technology is dedicating a permanent memorial in honour of campus police Officer Sean Collier, who was slain by the Boston Marathon bombers.
MIT President L. Rafael Reif, campus police Chief John DiFava and designer J. Meejin Yoon are among those scheduled to speak at Wednesday's ceremony.
The memorial, at the site where Collier was slain, features five granite walls arranged in a radial pattern resembling the spread fingers of an open hand, connected by an arch in the centre where the words "In the line of duty, Sean Collier April 18, 2013" are etched.
A temporary memorial has been at the site since October 2013.
Yoon, an architecture professor at MIT, called the memorial "the single most difficult, emotional and meaningful project I have ever worked on."
