Nigerian army officials say troops have killed 11 suspected cattle rustlers in a crackdown on theft of cattle in Katsina and other states.
Army spokesman Capt. Stephen Ikechukwu Eze, assistant director of army public relations, said Thursday that the army was continuing with the operation code named "Restore Peace." It started on July 10 following a request by the governors of seven northwestern states to combat rampant cattle rustling and armed robbery in their states.
Another Army spokesman Col. Usman Abdul says that soldiers arrested 64 suspected armed bandits during operations in the states and handed them over to police while recovering 7119 cattle, sheep and goats.
