Officials say a so far unexplained fault plunged the entire Mediterranean island of Menorca into darkness for more than an hour.
Grid operator Red Electrica says the lights went out Friday at 8:19 p.m. local time and supply was restored to the last of Menorca's 68,000 registered users just over an hour later.
Local newspaper Menorca on Saturday published reports of lift technicians being called out to help people trapped in elevators in the cities of Ciutadella and Santo Tomas.
