The remains of a Massachusetts man who died in the Korean War have been returned home.
Army Sgt. Christopher Vars was reported missing Nov. 29, 1950. His remains were found in the 1990s in a mass grave near a North Korean prison camp, and were recently confirmed as his.
His flag-draped coffin arrived Wednesday at Logan International Airport. State police escorted a motorcade of family members to their hometown of Reading, Massachusetts.
WBZ-TV reported (http://cbsloc.al/1NqEJtO) flag-waving residents stood on Main Street. A younger veteran, Eric Doucette, brought his daughter. He said, "It almost makes me want to cry."
Vars' nephew, Art Vars, said it was "a happy day" that fulfilled his late father's wishes.
Christopher Vars will be buried in a family plot in Everett after a funeral Oct. 6.
