Spanish police say they arrested an 18-year-old Moroccan woman in the eastern seaport of Gandia on suspicion of recruiting jihadi fighters from Spain for the Islamic State group.

Officers raided the suspect's home and workplace early Saturday and found evidence she was preparing to travel to Syria imminently, a statement says.

Police said the suspect — identified only by her initials R.E.A. — had lived in Spain for "a long period of time" and had "disseminated jihadist ideology over the Internet."

Police removed material they said could help investigators discover how many others had been involved in similar activities and how the suspect was radicalized through the Internet and social media.

More than 125 people have joined the Islamic group from Spain in recent years.
