Federal officials say a mother who helped her children evade murder charges has been captured near the Arizona-Mexico border.
KPNX-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1jKizq2 ) that the U.S. Marshals Service has announced the arrest of 43-year-old Lovonne De La Luz-Ruiz. She was detained by Mexican authorities in Nogales, Sonora, on Saturday and handed over to U.S. authorities on Sunday.
Luz-Ruiz was wanted in Phoenix. The U.S. Marshals Service says she helped her children, Daniela and Michael Stone, and their friend, Cassandra Devore, flee to Mexico two years ago after involvement in a brutal double murder.
The three were eventually captured in Mexico. Authorities say they have been convicted and are serving lengthy prison terms in Arizona.
