Copper giant Peru to gradually ease restrictions on mining sector in May
TECK COMINCO LTD - MINING OPERATIONS. Antamina copper-zinc project in Peru. The Antamina project property consists of numerous mining concessions and mining claims (including surface rights) covering an area of approximately 14,000 hectares. The deposit is located at an average elevation of 4,200 metres, 385 kilometres by road and 270 kilometres by air north of Lima, Peru. Antamina lies on the eastern side of the Western Cordillera in the upper part of the Rio Mara–on basin, a tributary of the Amazon River. The open pit is a truck/shovel operation. The ore is crushed at the rim of the pit and conveyed through a 2.7 kilometre tunnel to a coarse ore stockpile at the mill. It is then processed utilizing a SAG mill, followed by ball mill, grinding and flotation to produce separate copper, zinc, molybdenum and lead/bismuth concentrates. A 302 kilometre long, slurry concentrate pipeline, approximately 9 inches in diameter, with a single pump station at the minesite transports copper and zinc concentrates to the port where they are dewatered and stored prior to loading onto vessels for shipment to refineries and smelters world-wide.
