In photos: A look at some of the people at COP15
Joziléia Daniza Jagso is an indigenous woman of the Kaingang people from Brazil. She is also an anthropologist, the magazine editor and leader of several organizations. Story header: A growing voice within the COP Biodiversity Conference is that of indigenous people from around the world. Indigenous people from Australia to Lapland have come to COP15 in Montreal to present their points of view on the preservation of biodiversity. One of their key messages is that indigenous people are and always have been the natural guardians of biodiversity. “Indigenous lands make up around 20% of the Earth's territory, containing 80% of the world's remaining biodiversity—a sign Indigenous Peoples are the most effective stewards of the environment” reports the International Institute for Sustainable Development.
