The RAV4 will be the first hybrid vehicle in the compact SUV segment, joining Toyota's seven other green-themed rides.
What else is new
The RAV4 will be among the first models to be equipped with Toyota Safety Sense — Pre-Collision System, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Alert, Automatic High Beams, Pedestrian Pre-Collision System and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control —the whole shebang at a consumer cost of about $500 (U.S.). The auto maker says its SUV will also feature greater horsepower and better fuel efficiency, but it did not provide specifics. And then there's the innovative new cup holder, able to accommodate just about any size container, even those with handles.
Under the hood
The RAV4 Hybrid combines a 2.5-litre, four-cylinder engine running on the Atkinson cycle and an electric motor, and both axles get power from the Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel-Drive System.
When can we buy it and for how much?
No pricing yet but it should be in Canadian showrooms by the fall.
