Forget the fitness bracelet – this one is a real game changer. BACtrack was just named winner of the "wearable alcohol biosensor challenge," sponsored by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism.
The Skyn is a non-invasive biosensor hidden in a bracelet.
BACtrack is known for its high standard in professional and personal breathalyzers. Now the company has created a system that tracks your alcohol consumption through your skin.
The device tracks the ethanol molecules escaping through the skin. An area on the back side of the black band traps and analyzes the molecules. The TAC (transdermal alcohol content) samples are converted into a history of a user's BAC (blood alcohol content) and synced with an app on a smartphone to report in real-time.
Users can set the phone to vibrate to notify them of alcohol content, and to warn when they are close to the legal limit. Even better, a family member can be notified that it's time to take the keys away.
