Ford on Tuesday revealed the all-new Focus RS.

Ford's hottest hatch is coming to Canada.

The auto maker has unveiled the Focus RS, the 315-horsepower performance version of its popular car, and announced that global production will begin later this year.

The Focus RS will be built at Ford's plant in Saarlouis, Germany, and become the first RS model sold in the United States and Canada when it goes on sale in 2016. Pricing was not announced.

The Focus RS features a 2.3-litre EcoBoost four-cylinder engine, Brembo brakes, a six-speed manual transmission and Recaro seats.

"The all-new Focus RS is a serious machine with high-performance technology and innovative engineering that sets a new benchmark for driving exhilaration on the road and track," said Raj Nair, Ford's head of vehicle development, in a press release. "The RS line has a proud history of technical breakthroughs that have migrated to mainstream Ford vehicles to benefit all of our customers, and the new Focus RS is no exception.

"It's a great example of our passion for innovation through performance, and creating vehicles that make people's hearts pound."

The new Focus is the first RS developed for sale around the world as part of Ford's One Ford plan. Twelve more performance cars will be introduced globally by 2020. The RS performance line dates back nearly 50 years in Europe.

Professional rally driver Ken Block was a consultant on development of the car.
