The Subaru Legacy was named Thursday as the Canadian Car of the Year while the Ford F-150 took top honours as the Utility Vehicle of the Year.
"At Subaru, we have a wonderful reputation for engineering, design and building great SUVs and performance cars," said Ted Lalka, a vice-president at Subaru Canada, while accepting the award to kick off the media preview day at the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto. "But for many Canadians, it comes as a surprise that we actually have great sedans.
"This new Legacy is changing that."
The Legacy beat out the Hyundai Genesis, Mercedes-Benz C 300 4MATIC and the Volkswagen Golf while the F-150 topped the Porsche Macan and Subaru Outback. The awards are handed out by the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC). Last month, the F-150 was named Globe Drive's Newsmaker of the Year and the North American Truck of the Year at the Detroit auto show.
Finalists for the AJAC Green Car of the Year award were also announced. They are the Toyota Camry Hybrid, Honda Fit, Kia Soul EV and Subaru Legacy. The winner will be announced at the Vancouver auto show on March 24.
