Currency fluctuations had a negative impact on third-quarter revenue at CGI Group Inc. but its profit was up 12 per cent from a year earlier.

The Montreal-based information technology company says its revenue was $901.6-million, down about $50-million from a year ago.

CGI says its revenue would have been up slightly if exchange rates had remained constant.

As it was, the company took a $55.3-million hit to the top line due to the changing value of the dollar.

The company's profit improved, however. Net income rose to $85.9-million or 30 cents per share - up from $76.7-million or 25 cents in the third quarter of fiscal 2009.
