Figures in brackets for earnings are Thomson Reuters mean estimates per share and usually represent adjusted earnings. Economic forecasts are based on economists surveys conducted by Dow Jones.

(830 a.m. ET) Canada releases third-quarter capacity utilization.

(830 a.m. ET) U.S. releases jobless claims for last week, forecast to rise to 320,000 from the previous week's new claims of 298,000.

(830 a.m. ET) U.S. releases retail sales for November, forecast to rise 0.6 per cent after gaining 0.4 per cent in October. Excluding autos, retail sales are expected to rise 0.2 per cent, unchanged from the previous week.

(10 a.m. ET) U.S. releases business inventories for October, forecast to rise 0.3 per cent after gaining 0.6 per cent the previous month.
