The model Yield Hog Dividend Growth Portfolio put in another strong showing in September, posting a total return, including dividends, of 4.6 per cent.

The gains were led by banks, whose share prices continued to rise following strong third-quarter results released in August. Broad strength in utilities, power producers and pipelines - all of which benefited from falling interest rates - also gave the portfolio a boost.

There was one dividend increase during the month. On Sept. 25, Emera Inc. (EMA) hiked its dividend by 1 per cent to $2.93 annually, marking its 19th consecutive annual increase.
