The UK PureWick™ At-Home Pilot Study aims to test a new way for women to manage urine at home without using catheters that go inside the body. Its official title signals a focus on real-world benefits versus standard indwelling catheters, and the work matters because home-based care is a fast-growing, cost-sensitive part of the health system.
The study tests BD’s PureWick™ Female External Catheter System, a non‑invasive urine collection device. It is designed to sit outside the body and help women with urinary incontinence stay dry and comfortable while avoiding the risks tied to traditional catheters.
This is an observational cohort study, not a randomized drug trial, so doctors simply follow women who switch from internal catheters to PureWick™ at home. There is no blinding, and the main goal is to see how the device performs in everyday use and how it impacts comfort, sleep, and quality of life.
The study was first submitted on December 19, 2025, marking the formal start of the project for regulators. The latest update on July 10, 2026 shows the trial is active and still recruiting, keeping the data and investor picture current as BD refines its home-care strategy.
This update supports BD’s push into home-based continence care, a niche that could drive steady, higher-margin device revenue over time. Positive outcomes could lift sentiment on BDX by reinforcing its consumables moat, while competitors in urinary care may feel pressure to match non‑invasive offerings.
The UK PureWick™ At-Home Pilot Study remains underway and recently updated, with fuller details available on the ClinicalTrials.gov portal.
