An announcement from Duolingo ( (DUOL) ) is now available.
On August 10, 2026, Duolingo’s board expanded from nine to ten directors and appointed veteran financial executive Sallie Krawcheck as an independent Class I director, effective immediately. She also joined the Audit, Risk and Compliance Committee and will serve until the 2028 annual meeting, aligning her term with the company’s long-term governance plans.
Krawcheck brings more than three decades of senior financial and operating experience, including roles as Citigroup’s Chief Financial Officer and CEO of Merrill Lynch Wealth Management, Smith Barney and Sanford Bernstein, as well as founding Ellevest and growing it to $2.4 billion in assets under management. Duolingo’s leadership emphasized that her expertise in financial strategy, governance and scaling global organizations is expected to strengthen the company’s oversight as it continues to grow.
Her appointment is accompanied by standard non-employee director compensation, including cash retainers for board and audit committee service and a package of restricted stock units with multi-year vesting schedules tied to continued board service. This structure further aligns Krawcheck’s interests with those of shareholders and underscores Duolingo’s focus on attracting experienced, high-profile directors to support its expansion and mission-driven growth in the edtech sector.
