TSX Barely Breaks Breakeven by Noon

Canada's main stock index was flat on Thursday, as investors took a breather after a series of record highs this week, and declines in miners and financial stocks offset gains in energy.

The TSX struggled to gains of 25.96 points, to open Thursday at 31,206.21

The Canadian dollar gained 0.35 cents to 71.26 cents U.S.

Canada-listed shares of Hut 8 gained $2.78, or 4.7%, to $62.29, tracking an over 1% gain in bitcoin.

Gold prices dropped $13.80 to $4,151.40.

Oil prices gained 25 cents to 4,151.40.

ON BAYSTREET

The TSX Venture Exchange regained 2.73 points to 921.09.

Eight of the 12 TSX subgroups gained ground, with real-estate and telecoms picking up 0.3%, and financials ahead 0.2%.

The four laggards were weighed most by gold, materials and consumer staples, each down 0.3%.

The Canadian dollar gained 0.4 cents to 71.26 cents U.S.
