Interfor to cut lumber output until year-end, citing weak market conditions
BURNABY - Forestry company Interfor Corp. says it's planning to cut lumber production by about 12 per cent from normal levels until the end of the year. The Burnaby, B.C.-based company says it's due to persistently weak market conditions and ongoing economic uncertainty. It says the curtailment equates to 145 million board feet of lumber overall. Interfor says the cuts will be done through reduced operating hours, prolonged holiday breaks, shift scheduling changes and extended maintenance shutdowns. All regions — both in the U.S. and Canada — are to be affected. The company says it will continue to monitor market conditions and adjust plans accordingly.
