ING Groep Buys 40% Stake in Spain’s Singular Bank to Accelerate Private Banking Growth

Tipranks - Tue Jul 7, 5:42AM CDT

4th of July Sale - 70% Off

ING Groep ( (ING) ) has provided an announcement.

ING Groep moved to strengthen its private banking franchise on July 6, 2026, announcing a strategic deal to acquire roughly 40% of Singular Bank, an independent Spanish wealth manager with about €19 billion in client assets. The stake, bought from Warburg Pincus, is expected to close in the first quarter of 2027 with minimal impact on ING’s CET1 ratio, and will be structured as a non-controlling interest subject to potential future reassessment.

The investment deepens ING’s presence in Spain, where it already serves 4.6 million retail customers and operates a long-established wholesale banking arm, and complements the launch of its own private banking offering in the country. Singular Bank will remain an independent entity targeting higher-end clients needing sophisticated products and financing, while ING and Singular plan commercial cooperation to grow their client bases and assets under management, reinforcing ING’s ambition to become a leading European bank in wealth and private banking.

Spark’s Take on ING Stock

According to Spark, TipRanks’ AI Analyst, ING is a Outperform.

Overall score driven primarily by mixed financial performance (notably leverage and negative free cash flow) balanced by favorable technical momentum and supportive valuation. The latest earnings call adds incremental strength via upgraded guidance and ongoing capital returns, tempered by higher risk costs and capital/RWA headwinds.
