The latest announcement is out from Manulife Financial ( (TSE:MFC) ).
On June 18, 2026, Manulife Financial Corporation reset the interest rate on its C$2 billion 3.375% Limited Recourse Capital Notes Series 1 for the five-year period starting June 19, 2026, setting the new rate at 5.883% per year. The revised rate, calculated as the Government of Canada Yield plus a 2.839% spread, will apply until June 19, 2031, with interest continuing to be paid semi-annually on June 19 and December 19, and the notes scheduled to mature on June 19, 2081.
The Limited Recourse Capital Notes remain backed by 2,000,000 Non-Cumulative Fixed Rate Reset Class 1 Shares Series 27 held in a limited recourse trust, meaning noteholders’ claims in a default are effectively tied to these shares. Manulife also reiterated its option, subject to regulatory approval, to redeem the notes in whole or in part beginning in the 2031 reset window and every five years thereafter, a move that gives the insurer flexibility in managing its capital structure and funding costs while clarifying terms for investors holding the hybrid securities.
