The Phase 3 study “A Phase 3 Open-Label, Single-Arm Study to Evaluate the Safety and Immunogenicity of an Omicron JN.1 Subvariant SARS-CoV-2 rS Vaccine Adjuvanted With Matrix-M” tests a new Omicron JN.1 COVID-19 booster. It focuses on how well the vaccine triggers an immune response and how safe it is in older adults and high-risk individuals who were already vaccinated.
The treatment is a single intramuscular dose of NVX-CoV2705, a protein-based Omicron JN.1 vaccine using Novavax’s Matrix-M adjuvant. It is designed as an updated booster to improve protection against current variants, especially for people at higher risk of severe COVID-19.
The trial is interventional and Phase 3, with one study arm and no randomization. All participants receive the same open-label vaccine, and there is no placebo, so the study’s main goal is to track safety signals and immune response rather than compare against another product.
The study is listed as completed, with Sanofi as lead sponsor and Novavax as collaborator, and the last update was submitted on June 3, 2026. Key follow-up covers 28 days for immune response and 180 days for safety, so investors should watch for when top-line data or peer-reviewed results are released after this completion.
For investors, a completed Phase 3 study on NVX-CoV2705 supports the case that Novavax and Sanofi remain relevant in the COVID-19 booster market. Positive data could lift sentiment for both firms versus mRNA competitors such as Pfizer and Moderna, especially if regulators look for variant-updated and protein-based options for older and high-risk groups.
While the market for COVID-19 vaccines has cooled from peak levels, credible data from this trial could support recurring booster revenue and help stabilize NVAX sentiment, which has been volatile. Any sign of strong immune response and a clean safety profile versus prior Novavax shots could also improve partnership value with Sanofi and support future tender or government contracts.
The NVX-CoV2705 Phase 3 study is completed and recently updated, and investors can find further details and any future posted results on the ClinicalTrials portal.
