Ovintiv Canada ULC previously arranged a two-year term credit facility in November 2025 to help finance Ovintiv Inc.’s acquisition of NuVista Energy, which closed on February 3, 2026, and now plans to repay C$1.57 billion and terminate that facility on April 10, 2026. Separately, Ovintiv completed the sale of approximately 360,000 net acres of Anadarko assets in west-central Oklahoma to MidCon II BuyerCo on April 9, 2026 for roughly $2.9 billion in cash after adjustments, and the parent company expects about $2.85 billion in sale proceeds, which are earmarked for debt reduction, including the full redemption of $700 million of 5.650% notes due 2028 on April 20, 2026, marking a key step in reshaping its portfolio and strengthening its balance sheet.
The Anadarko divestiture, effective January 1, 2026, represents a significant portfolio shift as Ovintiv exits the Oklahoma position while also using the cash inflow to hit its stated debt targets. By retiring both the Canadian acquisition facility and the 2028 notes, Ovintiv is reducing leverage and interest expense, improving financial flexibility and potentially enhancing shareholder returns, while narrowing its focus on remaining core assets in a competitive North American upstream landscape.
