The latest announcement is out from Petroleo Brasileiro SA- Petrobras ( (PBR) ).
On June 10, 2026, Petrobras announced an agreement to acquire a 50% stake in the offshore Itaimbezinho exploration block in the Campos Basin from Equinor Brasil Energia, which currently holds full ownership. After closing, Equinor will retain operatorship with 50%, Petrobras will hold the remaining 50%, and Pré-Sal Petróleo S.A. will act as manager of the production sharing contract.
The move strengthens Petrobras’s exploration portfolio in Brazil and aligns with its 2026–2030 business plan to replenish oil and gas reserves through new frontier plays and partnerships. By deepening collaboration with Equinor alongside neighboring assets such as the Raia project and the Jaspe license, the deal is expected to generate operational synergies in the Campos Basin, though completion remains subject to clearance by CADE, the ANP and other precedent regulatory conditions.
