The new phase 4 study from BioNTech SE and Pfizer Inc. looks at an updated BNT162b2 COVID-19 vaccine for adults aged 18 to 64. It aims to assess safety and the level of spike protein in the blood, which helps regulators and investors judge how well this next-season shot may support the companies’ established vaccine franchise.
The trial compares a single dose of a new variant-adapted BNT162b2 shot with a standard Tdap vaccine, both given as one arm injection on day 1. The study is interventional and randomized, with participants assigned by chance to one of the two vaccines in parallel groups.
