Umicore was formed through a merger in 1989. It is materials technology and recycling company. Its activities are divided in four business groups Catalysis, Energy Materials, Performance Materials and Recycling. The Company provides automotive catalysts for gasoline and diesel light duty vehicles as well as for heavy duty diesel applications including trucks and other large vehicles. The business group also produces precious metals based compounds for use in the fine chemicals, life science and pharmaceutical industries. The materials produced by Energy Materials can be found in a number of applications used in the production and storage of clean energy including rechargeable batteries and photovoltaics, as well as in a range of other applications. Performance Materials applies its technology and know-how to the unique properties of metals, offering materials that enable its customers to develop better, more sophisticated and safer products. Recycling treats complex waste streams containing precious and other non-ferrous metals. The operations can recover some 20 of these metals from a wide range of input materials ranging from industrial residues to end-of-life materials.
